The Bitter Sweet

Saying goodbye to Grandma-Grandma, as my kids call her.
We are so luck to have had this wonderful lady in our lives as long as we did.  Grandma is an wonderful example of an elect lady.  She was quiet, never outspoken, but she enjoyed a good joke and had a wonderful laugh.  She was dependable, hardworking, a good listener, kind, and generous with her time, her talents and her love.
Grandma made us candy houses every Christmas, chocolate covered marshmallow eggs with our names scrolled on them with icing every Easter, peanut butter and honey sandwiches for lunch after the parade, and fish sticks for dinner every Harvest when my parents were in the field.  I always think of my Grandmother when I see sweet pea flowers, or tulips, pansies, peonies, gladiolas, or even raspberries!  My kids remember going to visit Grandma at the assisted living hospital.  They remember sitting on her walker and getting a 'ride' from Grandma-Grandma. They remember going and singing to her, and they remember getting hugs from her.  Grandma-Grandma had a hard time remembering anyone the last couple of years (her greatest fear come true) but we will remember the one of our last visits with Grandma, she did not know who we were during our visit but as we were giving her hugs good bye she held Addison's hand and said "I'm your great great great great grandmother".  Close enough Grandma, and a tiny tender mercy for us to remember of her.  She will be missed but be are truly grateful that she no longer has to live and struggle each day with the trials that she has had these last few years.

Grandsons as the pallbearers carry Grandma's casket while the bag pipper played amazing grace.
This is exactly how Grandma would have wanted it.
