This years Great Canadian Road Tip definitely had it's share of highlights and lowlights.
Highlight: Packing. Packing is more fun than unpacking. The girls love to help distract from the packing (keep in mind, we are packing not cleaning)!
Lowlight: about an hour into our trip Mommy starts to wonder why the car is not warm yet and discovers that the heater is not working. Great, just 9 hours left to go. Thank goodness for baby blankets!
Highlight: Swimming at the Wave Pool with cousins.
No you are not counting wrong. Pretty little bebe in red suit is niece Zuzu (of course it's a nickname), she is three months younger than Lei.
Highlight: The Calgary Tower. Ironic that Mommy lived in Calgary for a couple years of college but this was a first for all of us. Amazing panoramic views including the view straight down!! There is a section of floor in glass that you can walk out on. It was a bit unnerving to say the least. Even the kiddos were nervous to be out on the see though floor.
In the top right pick you can see the most famous Calgary skyline view including the Saddle Dome, home of the Calgary Stampede!
Highlight: Hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa, got the heat fixed in the car and watched the head of "rein" deer play reindeer games in the yard. Below shows the deer in the yard and surrounding field. On average there will be 30-60 head of deer in the yard, and if you look at the picture off the balcony you can see just how close these deer are to the house. There have been times when we will sit in Grandma and Grandpas hot tub (inside basement) and the deer will literally come up to the windows and lick the salt deposits! Daddy's highlight was Grandma's cooking! She even made her yummy stuffing (daddy's request). We came home with a few more recepies for our menu.
Lowlight: It was cold outside. Arctic air covered most of Western Canada and the United States, temperatures dipped down to -30° Celsius which converts to -22° Fahrenheit. Can you say BRRRR?!?!
Then we headed to our nephew Brigg's house to celebrate his 1st Birthday with him! Wave Pool (again), cake and cousin bath. What more could the birthday boy ask for!
Then is was back on the road. Our girls are really good in the car, Lei has been the hardest and you can guarantee at least one diaper blowout when we're in the car for this long.
Addi and Lexi are happy to just get out and play at McDonald's at the half-way point. With all the winter storms through out most of the Western States we seemed to pick the best day to travel. Roads were clear and dry.
Highlight: We had a great trip, and loved hanging out with family. It's always hard to leave but nice to be home again.
Lowlight: Unpacking.

Looks like a fun road trip! Glad you survived the cold!! That's really cool that the deer come up so close and lick the salt blocks. My kids would love that! Glad you guys were safe on your trip.
